Have you had the opportunity to research the case of U.S. vs. Narciso-Perez where two Pinay nurses were wrongfully convicted of poisoning patients?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ann_Arbor_Hospital_Murders

This case presents a backdrop for the current state of Filipino-American nurses and the legal discrimination that they have been facing recently. One of the nurses son, Jason Perez, has been working on a project revolving his mother's trial and the racism that existed around it.

Hi Joel. I don't disagree — in fact, I wrote an article in Ms. magazine saying much the same thing: http://www.msmagazine.com/winter2010/asianleaders.asp. That said, I still stand by my position that, despite the good she DID do, she ultimately didn't fully live up to the demands of People Power.

Hello Ms. Catherine,

I just wanted to tell you this:

Though Cory was not the most intelligent or experienced of all presidents, the best achievements she made was restoring democratic institutions and helping the nation adjust from a dictatorship to a democracy. Being a president after Marcos was hard. We had a lot of problems and she was inexperienced. But she still kept her promise of being honest and humble in public, which were the traits that led her to the presidency. She tried her best and she never gave up in helping the Philippines rise from a disastrous dictatorship. Her family sacrificed a lot for the Filipino people. They sacrificed their personal lives. Cory did not want to be in the limelight, yet she sacrificed her privacy for the sake of the Filipino people. So don't you dare say that she did nothing. Don't dare say she failed because she tried her best and never gave up. Only in giving up do we really fail.

My mum stayed was a stay at home mum for about 14 years, she went back to work when I was 11. I genuinely do feel like I benefitted from it. Maybe it was just the security of knowing that my mum was always there for me as a young child. This has been something that has always bothered me when thinking about having my own children, I absolutely do not want to give up a career and stay at home, but I feel like I should give my children the childhood I had.

After thinking about this article, I've reconsidered. Maybe it wasn't just the fact that my mum was at home, but the fact that she genuinely wanted to be. I think caring was always her vocation, whether for her own children or professionally. Since going back to work she has spent the vast majority of her time caring for the elderly and disabled. I think she has derived a huge amount of fulfilment from it, that she didn't get from the work she did before having children.
Personally, I don't think I would feel the same and perhaps, like you Catherine, my children would pick up on that. Maybe the lesson is, if you can do whichever you're happiest with and your children will be happier.

Comment on Brewer is All Wrong About Spillover Violence by Benito

In the last four months Jan Brewer has been caught lying, three times and counting.

The comments made on June 16, 2010, and June 27, 2010, clearly indicates that the Brewer says that immigrants are beheading people in the United States desert. She first ran away from the question and the press when confronted with the question. She finally when to FOX/ FAKE News to recant her lie.

When Brewer was confronted with the fact the two of her top Advisors (Paul Senseman, Chuck Coughlin) are lobbyist for “Private Prisons” giant CCA she first ran away from the question and the press.

In an attempt to gain sympathy, she first said her father had died in Germany fighting the Nazi in World War II (which ended 1945) but of course we find out the truth that her father was never in Germany and died in California in 1955. Do you see a trend here?

Brewer signed into law SB 1070 Bill (Did she even read it?), lied about the crime rates in AZ (even Janet Napolitano knows that all crimes rates went down), and now we find out that she is in the pockets of PRIVATE PRISONS who stand to benefit with the increase Federal jailing, and thus they will pay her back, I wonder if it has to do anything about the fact that her son was transferred to a brand new prison, he was convicted for rape and sexual assault, I guess the fruit does not fall far the tree.

Your lola was a strong and resilient woman. May her soul rest in the peace she so deeply deserves. May she live on through all of us as we continue the fight to liberate the countless other migrant workers who suffer at the hands of such cruel oppression and exploitation. My condolences to you and your loved ones.
